Living and working in Essen

Located in the heart of Germany’s Ruhr metropolitan region, Essen offers an excellent quality of life, a vibrant international community and outstanding transport connections.

Since 2013, WPE has successfully treated adult and paediatric patients with proton therapy, including patients with central nervous system (CNS) tumours, head and neck cancers, sarcomas, prostate cancer and many other tumour entities.

Today, WPE enjoys an outstanding international reputation in both clinical care and research. Through numerous national and international collaborations, we continuously contribute to the advancement of proton therapy. Patients travel to Essen not only from across Germany but also from many European and non-European countries.

We are now looking for an enthusiastic Medical Physicist to strengthen our team.

Working at WPE

At WPE, we exclusively provide state-of-the-art proton therapy. Our facility is centred around a 230 MeV cyclotron supplying four treatment rooms: three 360° rotating gantries and one fixed-beam room with two horizontal beam lines.

Using advanced Pencil Beam Scanning (PBS) technology and an innovative treatment planning system, we routinely deliver Intensity-Modulated Proton Therapy (IMPT). This enables highly conformal treatments, including craniospinal irradiation and simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) techniques for selected indications.

Our unique technological environment offers Medical Physicists the opportunity to work exclusively with proton therapy and actively contribute to the further development of particle therapy in both clinical practice and research.
