Registry Studies at the WPE

Research and application run hand in hand with us. In order to improve the safety and quality of our patient’s lives, our primary goal, in addition to medical therapy success, is to minimize the risk of radiation-induced long-term side effects as well as the incidence of secondary tumors.

Currently, there is a registry study for adults and one for children. This is to ensure that, at the increasing clinical use of proton therapy in the context of medicine, evaluable data on the toxicity and tumor control and outcome are generated. Using the measures provided for in this registry study data documentation, the basis for the subsequent assessment of the possibilities and benefits of proton therapy is to be created. Based on the data obtained, future therapy concepts and a selection of the most important applications of proton therapy will also be developed.

The information gathered in the registry study image data (planning CT) can be used for theoretical comparative studies. The results obtained will enable the evaluation of different techniques for their potential of dose escalation and to reduce side effects and secondary malignancies as well as to be the basis for future developing treatment plans. We assume that we will develop common strategies and therapy studies in Germany in collaboration with the study commission of the Society of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology (GPOH).
