On this page we would like to give you some important information about the high-precision and, at the same time, gentle possibilities for the irradiation of brain tumours with protons. We fundamentally treat all types of brain tumours, both benign and malignant. Furthermore, our centre has particular expertise in the therapy of rare tumours, such as ependymomas, medulloblastomas, rhabdoid tumours, craniopharyngeomas or pituitary adenomas.
We also treat rare tumours of the central nervous system. Ask us about these!
And we also have particular expertise in the irradiation of the craniospinal axis.
If you have a recommendation for radiotherapy from your attending medical specialist or oncologist, proton therapy is in principle possible. Decisive, however, is always the individual indication. Consequently, our radiotherapy specialists (radio-oncologists) examine each individual case beforehand.
Proton therapy is usually part of an interdisciplinary therapy concept, which also considers alternative therapies and recommendations from various other oncological disciplines. In principle, proton therapy can take place both before and after surgery or chemotherapy. Also a parallel chemotherapy is possible. Depending on the distance, this can be done either in your home hospital / home office or directly in the University Hospital Essen. Our Case Management will gladly advise you individually.
For a first quick and individual check of whether proton therapy is suitable for you in princible, we need a summary medical report or alternatively the doctor and surgical reports in English or German as well as up-to-date CT or MRI images.
For the subsequent planning of your therapy, we need additional documents, which we have compiled for you in this list. If you have further questions, our Case Management will be happy to help.
If you have questions or would like to know if proton therapy (PT) is an option for you, do not hesitate to contact us directly – even if your clinical picture is not listed here.
The course of therapy is always oriented to your individual indication and situation, advise you with the compilation of the required documentation, and initiate the examination of these by a radio-oncologist of the West German Proton Therapy Centre Essen (WPE).
