The University of Duisburg-Essen is looking for clever minds.

In total, we are filling 23 new positions in the federal-state program for the promotion of young scientists (WISNA). In the first instance, we are looking for eligible candidates for the following nine junior professorships with tenure track.
At the Medical Faculty in the Clinic for Particle Therapy at the West-German Proton Therapy Center Essen (WPE):
Junior-Professorship in Translational Particle Therapy
(Bes.-Gr. W 1 LBesO W – with Tenure Track – W 2)
The West-German Proton Therapy Center Essen (WPE) is one of the leading institutions for proton radiotherapy in Germany and one of the most advanced proton therapy centers in the world. The professorship should contribute to strengthening this field in a complementary way, for example through experimental studies on proton therapy. We are looking for a scientist with experience in the field of cancer and radiation research, who strengthens research and academic teaching of the oncological focus.
It is expected that the eligible candidate will promote the establishment of a laboratory-based research group, including the independent acquisition of third-party funded projects. Furthermore he /she shall establish and strengthen local, national and international co-operations within the scope of joint research projects. A close networking and an active collaboration with the cooperating institutes for medical radiation biology and cell biology (cancer research) as well as joint projects such as the DKTK or the DFG Research Training Group (GRK 1739) is expected. Involvement in teaching activities of the university is mandatory. The applicant must dispose of the necessary professional and personal competencies as well as organizational skills.
The faculty supports the following research priorities: cardiovascular, oncology, transplantation as well as the related fields of immunology, infectiology and genetic medicine.
Publications in the specialist field in peer-reviewed journals, especially in leading international journals are expected.
Experience in attracting competitive third-party funding, involvement in international research and relevant international experience are needed. Furthermore, a qualification in the field of leadership in science is required.
The University of Duisburg-Essen places particular significance on the quality of academic teaching. We would ask the candidate to provide us with didactic concepts regarding our teaching activities, considering the profile of the University of Duisburg-Essen.
The willingness to cooperate in academic self-government is mandatory.
Qualifications according to § 36 Hochschulgesetz NRW (University Act of North-Rhine-Westphalia) are essential.
The educational commitment is currently four class hours in the first and five hours in the second employment phase of the junior professorship. The employment as a temporary civil servant takes place with the presence of the civil service prerequisites. The duration of employment is governed by § 39 Abs. 5 Higher Education Act NRW.
